Pregnancy and birth were a mystery to me for far too long. It wasn’t until I started to consider having my own kids that I began to learn more. What I found gave me hope and eased many of my fears. I came to realize that women’s bodies are endowed with the ancient wisdom of our ancestors. If that isn’t enough we also live in the age of evidence-based science! By recognizing and honoring both spheres, we have the best chance at a good birth. As a stress management coach, my transition into the doula role feels like a natural specialization. As a doula I find that I am often adapting coaching skills to help my clients separate the intensity of labor from suffering. These skills include reducing overwhelm by breaking goals into smaller, more manageable chunks, using mindfulness to direct focus away from the discomfort of contractions, maintaining the presence of mind to support everyone in meeting their basic needs, and alleviating anxiety by normalizing the birthing process and connecting on a human level. The support I offer does not have to end with the birth. Together we can create a plan for postpartum support to ensure a successful transition to motherhood, whether it’s your first, second, third, or maybe even your last child. I can’t wait to meet you and support you on this incredible journey.
