Birth Doula Intern Meilani Smith

Birth Doulas - Trained Labor Support Professionals

As a child I wanted to become a pediatrician. When I entered womanhood I became more interested in women’s health, and in particular the realms of fertility and childbirth.

As a mother myself I understand how important it is to have support through throughout the entirety of the prenatal, birth, and postpartum experiences. There is an African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I truly believe a doula is an important part of that village, and I strive to be of assistance to birthing people of all backgrounds to provide support, insight, and resources.

I’ve learned on my journey to becoming a certified doula that it does not matter if it’s a birthing person’s first or sixth birth. Every birth is a different child and a different experience, and every birth should be given the same respect and support.

I am currently in nursing school and hope to one day serve as a a labor and delivery nurse.
