Birth Doula Intern Brayden Spearman

Birth Doulas - Trained Labor Support Professionals
My name is Brayden (Pronouns: He/They) – a professionally trained birth & postpartum doula (working towards becoming a Full Spectrum doula, amongst other things). I have had a passion for birth & nurturing children since I was a child myself. I have always been a person that likes to support and be there for others. People tell me quite often that I have a calming aura to be around. As I got older, I started realizing the true depths of the mortality rates amongst Black birthers and the babies they are carrying. I also saw the need for support for birthers in the trans/non-binary community. I am a Black, transmasculine, and queer doula; who believes that everyone deserves to have birthing and postpartum support no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, or body type. My goal as a doula is to make sure that the birthing person and anyone else that may be on their birthing team feels supported and like the decisions made were informed and based on consent. I am working on various trainings currently through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings, and I plan on certifying through them. My birthwork is definitely based on things like racial, social, disability & reproductive justice
