We are excited and proud to announce Tanya Muller, CNM as the midwife director of the Minnesota Birth Center. Tanya is experienced in all aspects of pregnancy care and she comes to this leadership position after 6 years of practice with the excellent midwife team at Park Nicollet Medical Center. For a number of years Tanya has envisioned the type of midwife-led primary maternity care practice that we are building at the Minnesota Birth Center. She is especially committed to offering low risk mothers the safe, satisfying, and seamless care that can be provided at 2606 Chicago Ave and if needed in our safety net at the hospital across the street.
Tanya and our other CNM and RN team members will begin to see mothers for prenatal care this month. When we can offer birth care at the center will be decided soon. We are encouraging mothers who are late in their pregnancies to continue care with their current providers. To arrange for a tour ,contact us at (612) 545-5311.
You may be wondering what has become of our freestanding birth center at 2606 Chicago Ave. The news is very good. It has been a long gestation and labor is about to start. We are optimistic for the launch of the first Minneapolis birth center in 2011. The prolonged gestation involved the wait for passage of a state birth center licensing bill and for revision of the city zoning code to permit birth centers. Both are now completed. We are now in process of exploring how to proceed with our house, which was built in 1911.
The Minnesota Birth Center (MBC) will be a midwife directed pregnancy care option for women with normal pregnancies just across the street from the Mother and Baby Hospital in Minneapolis. We will keep you informed as delivery of the MBC approaches

Emily attended Gustavus Adolphus College and is a Twin Cities enthusiast. She has almost ten years HR experience from her time in the staffing industry. Emily became interested in how the midwifery model of care empowers women after her personal experience of transferring from a hospital system to MBC mid-way through her third pregnancy. Emily is humbled to support the midwives and nurses of this organization. She lives in Minneapolis with her family and enjoys all things French, cooking, and dystopian novels.
